James Madison University is a public institution with an enrollment of approximately 19,000 students. It is a comprehensive university with a wide range of undergraduate programs. It has an active study abroad program, commitment to community service and well-regarded programs, especially in business. It is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
There are two programs for Academic Achievement: The JMU Male Academy for Academic Achievement and the Female Institute for Learning and Development. These run concurrently and include enrichment in math, writing and history, leadership, personal development, as well as the opportunity to experience campus life. Selection emphasis is on students who would be first generation college students, students from a low-income background and minorities.
The Summer Honors Institute is a weeklong residential program for rising juniors and seniors and gives them an opportunity to experience the campus and learn about the Honors program.
Debate Institute offers policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas, student congress, parliamentary and public forum formats. It is for high school students.
Space Explorers Camp seeks to inspire the next generation of scientists through an exploration of space, planets and more. There is a residential camp for rising 7th – 10th graders that includes a camping trip. The day program is for rising 5th – 8th graders.
Summer Poetry Camp encourages self-expression through poetry and other art forms for rising 3rd through 8th graders.
Camp UREC is a multi-sport fun camp for children, ages 6 – 12. There are one-week sessions throughout the summer.
There are sports camps for a range of ages and playing levels in baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball.
