Hampton University was founded in 1868. It has an enrollment of approximately 4,600 students. The campus is a National Historic Landmark district. It is a historically black institution and its distinguished alumni include Booker T. Washington.

Summer Youth Programs at Hampton University

Pre-College is a five-week residential program designed to prepare students for success in college. Students learn about leadership, test preparation, careers and enjoy campus recreational facilities.

Young Diplomats is a residential program for high school students with a focus on global studies, especially China. Students will also learn procedures of debate, etiquette with opportunities for sports and fun.

A+ Residential Program for Pre-College Students is a one-week college experience with academics, recreational activities, leadership, fun, personal finance lessons and more. It is for rising 8th – 12th graders.

The Barney E. Smart Summer Band Camp for High School students offers three major ensembles: marching band, symphonic band and jazz band. There is also auxiliary instruction for flag corps, dancers and drum majors.

National Summer Transportation Institute is a FREE program to educate students about careers in all aspects of transportation and how to prepare for academic success in engineering, science, technology and math fields.

Business of Engineering is a daytime program introducing engineering and business as problem solving.

NanoHU Summer Research Opportunities for High School students involves rising 10th and 11th graders in research in nanotechnology.  

Music Enrichment Program is a five-week half-day program with instruction in piano, string voice, percussion, guitar, winds and recording technology.

Kiddie Kollege is an academic enrichment, wellness and fun camp for ages 6 – 12. There is also a camp for younger children. Youth Empowerment Camp develops leadership skills in a fun environment and is for grades 7 – 12.

There are sports camps in horseback riding and kayaking. These camps also include educational activities.
