Georgetown University is located in Washington’s elegant Georgetown neighborhood. It is the oldest Jesuit Catholic university in the United States. It has an enrollment of approximately 17,000 with more postgraduate than undergraduates. Admission is highly selective.

Summer Programs at Georgetown

The College Preparatory Program is a three week residential or day program focused on SAT preparation and English, math and general study skills necessary to perform successfully in higher education. This is a non-credit program

The Summer Institutes are one-week programs designed for high school students to immerse themselves in an area of interest. The Medical Institute is an overview of the field of medicine and includes anatomy, microbiology, surgery, ethics and more. The program offers hands-on dissections, surgical simulators and patient simulator practice. The Law Institute explores topics such as punishment for minors vs. adults, sentencing, the jury system and the appellate court system. Students will visit the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Capitol and participate in a mock trial. Forensic Science covers blood spatter analysis, geographic profiling, gang and terrorism investigations. Basic Coding and Data Science Institute includes HTML with CSS, GitHub, Javascript, data analytics and data visualization.

National Security and Counterintelligence, International Relations and American Politics are areas of focus in Summer Institutes devoted to political science. These programs take advantage of Georgetown’s location to allow students to visit embassies, meet politicians, diplomats and tour federal institutions.

The Business and Management Institute offers separate programs in Entrepreneurship and Sports Industry Management. Panel discussions and lectures by business leaders are an important feature of these institutes.

Leadership Institute using simulation exercises to develop decision-making and leadership skills. It includes visits to area businesses and government offices. Creative Writing Institute includes visit to literary sites around Washington. Journalism Institute including reporting on Congress and White House, issues media ethics and more with the opportunity to meet noted journalists.

Immersion programs are a three-week experience allowing a more in-depth exposure to a selected area.

Georgetown also welcomes high school students to attend college courses and study alongside with its undergraduates. Two sessions are offered. Summer Honors Intensive allows high school students the opportunity to enroll in up to four college courses. Tuition varies per credits. Housing is available.
