Students are mentored by physicians and scientists. Participants arrange their schedule with their mentors. Students receive a stipend, but must arrange for their own housing.

The National Cancer Institute Continuing Umbrella of Research Experience (CURE) is a twelve-week research opportunity for students from groups underrepresented in the sciences. This program also pays a stipend.

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Creativity Awards program offers summer internships specifically in stem cell science. This is for California high school students, especially from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
